What is a Metabolic Fingerprint?


A Metabolic Fingerprint is an accurate measurement of a person's Resting Metabolic Rate, or the number of calories burned each day simply to maintain normal body functions such as breathing, keeping your heart pumping and your brain working, without taking into account any exercise or other physical activity. Metabolism plays such a significant role in our overall health and fitness that your Resting Metabolic Rate, (RMR), accounts for up to 75% of the total calories your body burns each day.

In fact, metabolism is such a critical factor in achieving and maintaining a successful weight management program and healthy lifestyle, that two people with the same eating and exercise habits can experience very different results, solely because their Metabolic Fingerprints are different.


Knowing your Metabolic Fingerprint is the missing piece to the weight management puzzle. Because everyone's Metabolic Fingerprint is unique, a one-size-fits-all approach to a diet or exercise regime doesn't work for most people. Nutrition facts on food packaging are often based on a 2,000 calorie per day diet, but you might in fact need far more or far less than this in order to achieve or maintain your weight loss and fitness goals.

Finding out your Metabolic Fingerprint is quick and easy - first of all you sit down and relax for about 10 minutes, and then you simply breathe into a hand-held, portable device continuously for 10 minutes, which measures your oxygen consumption. Because our bodies use oxygen to metabolise food, measuring how much oxygen your body consumes tells you exactly how many calories your body burns at rest each day. When the measurement is complete, your Metabolic Fingerprint will appear on the screen of the device and you will be given a computer printout of the result.

  • No food or drink, except water, for at least 4 hours
  • No exercise for at least 4 hours
  • No caffeine, stimulants or supplements for at least 4 hours
  • No products containing nicotine for at least 1 hour
