Relationship Problems - we can help you...

At Elite we recognise that when couples decide to seek help with a particular problem in their relationship it is potentially one of the most important decisions they will ever make. Therapy of this nature is often expected to be awkward and uncomfortable, but in reality this is seldom the case. We understand that couples who come to us are often feeling troubled and fragile, and need to be treated gently and compassionately, with the therapy sessions being delivered at the speed and depth best suited to them. We know that all our clients are investing their time, energy and trust in both us and the process, and therefore have a right to expect the highest quality advice and guidance, ideally resulting in long-term, positive results.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is just one of many methods used by Elite, which has been proven to provide extremely rapid and effective solutions to a wide range of problems, particularly in the area of relationship difficulties.

So what exactly is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

CBT can be described as a way of talking about:

  • How you think about yourself, the world and other people
  • How what you do affects your thoughts and feelings.

CBT can help you to change how you think ("Cognitive") and what you do ("Behaviour"). These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking treatments, it focuses on the "here and now" problems and difficulties. Instead of focussing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind now.

How does it work?

CBT can help you to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller parts. This makes it easier to see how they are connected and how they affect you. These parts are:

  • A Situation - a problem, event or difficult situation
    From this can follow:
  • Thoughts
  • Emotions
  • Physical feelings
  • Actions

Each of these areas can affect the others. How you think about a problem can affect how you feel physically and emotionally. It can also alter what you do about it.

Helping couples to achieve a positive outcome is ultimately very rewarding for both the clients and the therapist. Sadly however, research indicates that people often only seek assistance when the issues have become very complex and deep-rooted and therefore difficult to resolve.

As with any problem in life, the sooner you seek help, the easier it is potentially to solve it, but fortunately it is rarely too late to at least try and save something so special.

We invite all potential new clients to come along for an informal meeting, which is completely free of charge. This will then enable you to decide whether you feel comfortable with the allocated therapist and happy that a course of therapy sessions will be beneficial to you.
