A Weight Loss Success Story
The following article
appeared in Health & Fitness Weekly in September 2004, concerning
an Elite Clinics client.
I've been overweight for most
of my adult life, and must have tried every possible diet that has
appeared over the years. It's always the same story, though; I usually
manage to lose some weight when I'm on a diet, but it's always
difficult, because my willpower isn't really that good, and I end up
feeling miserable because I have to cut out the things I like eating
best, and, and then as soon as I lose a few kilos and stop following
the diet I always seem to put the weight back on again.
I
was feeling really fed up with spending my whole life on a diet, trying and
failing to lose weight, when I read an article in a newspaper about how people are slimming down easily using hypnosis. I decided to see if I could find a clinic in my area, and I came across Elite Clinics in Fuengirola and booked a course of sessions after calling in to see them for a chat. I'd never experienced hypnotherapy myself
before, although my brother stopped smoking after visiting a
hypnotherapist a couple of years ago, so I was aware of how successful
it is.
We went through a detailed questionnaire to start with, and it helped
to pinpoint exactly what my specific problems were; I tended to reach
for something to eat when I was bored, I have also always been a fast
eater, and exercise for me was just not on the agenda!
I was informed that my answers to the questions were very important, as
the follow up sessions would be designed around my own personal needs.
The actual hypnosis was really relaxing - I felt as though I was
hovering between being awake and falling asleep, which apparently is
exactly how it should be. What I was amazed about, however, was that I
could have sworn that I'd only been "under hypnosis" for what seemed
like 5 minutes, but in fact it was nearly half an hour!
Over
the next few days, I kept finding myself doing various changes in my
routines and eating habits. For example, I was sitting down to watch TV
one evening, a time when I would normally have had some sort of a
snack, even when I wasn't actually hungry, and I found myself getting
up after a couple of minutes and starting to do some tidying up
instead. So as a result I ended up not eating some unnecessary snack
and also I was getting a bit of exercise too!
I can't explain the difference. All I know is that I don't feel as
though I'm on a diet, I'm still enjoying eating whatever I want to eat,
and yet I'm steadily losing a kilo per week, and I now have the
motivation to do some form of exercise every day, even if it's just
walking up the stairs to the apartment instead of using the lift, which
is what I always used to do. It doesn't even feel like a chore - I just
go for the stairs naturally now.
I'm so pleased with the weight control programme. I'm losing weight
easily, without even thinking about it; I feel great about myself, my
self-confidence is coming back, and I just know that this time I really
will achieve my target weight as I can actually visualise myself now as
a slim person, whereas before it all seemed too much of an effort
because I knew in my mind that the diets weren't going to be successful
in the long term.
